Start me up: TrakPro
Want to manage all your subcontractor commercial processes in one place? Perhaps TrakPro is the platform you’re looking for.

Ahead of appearing at Digital Construction Week (DCW) in the Start-Up Village, Colm Brennan, founder and CEO of TrakPro, tells DC+ about his startup.
DC+: You’ve got two minutes: what problem does your technology solve and how does it do it?
Colm Brennan: One of the biggest pain points for contractors is managing subcontractor payments and commercial accounts properly. Many companies still rely on spreadsheets, email chains and disconnected accounting systems to track payment applications, retentions, variations and compliance documents. As projects grow, maintaining visibility becomes increasingly difficult, and that can lead to costly mistakes.
TrakPro was built to solve that problem. We provide a cloud-based platform that helps contractors manage the full subcontractor commercial process in one place. That includes payment applications, retention tracking, variation management, contra charges, compliance documentation and projected final accounts.
The goal is simple: give contractors a clear and accurate picture of what they owe, what’s been applied for, and where potential commercial risks are sitting before those issues become expensive problems.
A major focus for us is reducing admin time while improving financial control. Commercial teams shouldn’t have to spend days every month chasing spreadsheets or manually reconciling subcontractor applications. With TrakPro, that information is live, structured and accessible across the business.
We’re also helping contractors improve compliance with legislation around payment practices and retention reporting, which is becoming increasingly important across the industry. Ultimately, we’re modernising a part of construction management that has traditionally been very manual and fragmented.
OK, you’ve got my attention: who’s tested or already using your tech and what are the results?
Our customers include general contractors such as Collen Construction, specialist contractors like King & Moffatt, self-build developers such as Comer Group, and multinational project management firms, including CBRE. In simple terms, if a company is managing subcontractor commercial information across projects, TrakPro is relevant to their workflow.
TrakPro is now in use across Ireland, the UK, Sweden, Portugal and Germany, with more than 600 weekly active users and more than 500 of our customers’ subcontractors using the platform.
The strongest feedback we receive is around visibility and time savings. Commercial managers and directors can immediately see where payment applications are sitting, what retentions are outstanding, and which subcontractors are missing signed subcontract documentation. That level of visibility is very difficult to achieve when information is spread across spreadsheets and inboxes.
Customers are also significantly reducing the time spent preparing monthly payment assessments and reporting. Processes that previously took days are now being completed in hours because the information is centralised and standardised.
Another major benefit has been improved commercial control. Contractors are identifying discrepancies earlier, tracking variations more accurately and reducing the risk of payment disputes later in projects.
Construction software only works if it reflects the reality of onsite and commercial operations. Thanks to feedback from our customers, we’ve focused heavily on usability and practical workflows rather than adding complexity.
What’s your senior management team’s background?
The TrakPro founding team comprises me and Sri Prasanna Karuppapillai (CTO). Between us, we bring experience from both the construction and technology industries.
I have more than 22 years of experience in construction. I started as an apprentice electrician in 2004 and spent 17 years with the same company, working my way up through roles including electrician, foreman, estimator, estimating manager, surveyor, commercial manager and ultimately commercial director. That journey gave me first-hand experience of both the strengths and frustrations within the industry at every level.
It was during my time as commercial director that the idea for TrakPro came about. Alongside managing our own payment applications, I was also overseeing subcontractor commercial processes using spreadsheets, emails and disconnected systems. At the end of every month, I found myself spending late evenings and weekends trying to bring order to what felt like organised chaos. I genuinely believed there had to be a better way to manage subcontractor commercial information.
Sri brings more than 17 years’ experience from the technology industry, having held senior roles with companies including CurrencyFair and SlideShare. He is also a graduate of the Techstars accelerator programme and has extensive experience building and scaling technology products within startup environments.
Both Sri and I work very closely with our customers, including regular visits to teams in Ireland, the UK, Sweden and Portugal. We strongly believe the best products are built with customers, not simply for them, and there’s no substitute for sitting down face-to-face with commercial teams to understand how they actually work day-to-day.
