What’s Wood doing at Digital Construction Week?
Ahead of exhibiting at Digital Construction Week, Wood data management consultancy operations manager Tom Bunker tells DC+ what show visitors can expect on the firm’s stand.

DC+: Who are you and what do you do?
Tom Bunker: At its core, Wood is all about helping some of the world’s most complex industries work better, smarter and more sustainably. We’re a global leader in consulting, engineering and operations, supporting clients across the energy and materials sectors. With around 33,000 employees in nearly 50 countries, we bring together global scale and practical expertise.
Wood supports clients across the entire asset lifecycle, from early concept and design, through to delivery, operations and continuous optimisation. Our focus is on delivering safe, predictable outcomes while helping organisations build resilience and move towards a lower-carbon future.
Wood also forms the energy and materials pillar of Sidara, a global partnership that brings together leading multidisciplinary engineering, design and project management companies. This allows us to tap into a wider network of talent and innovation, while still operating independently and staying closely aligned with our clients’ specific needs.
We pride ourselves on being a trusted adviser, not just a service provider. Our teams work closely with clients to develop practical digital strategies and integrate solutions that deliver real value. Because we’ve spent decades designing and building physical assets, we understand how digital solutions need to work in the real world, not just in theory. That combination of data, digital expertise, and hands-on engineering experience gives us a clear edge over traditional consulting or technology-only firms.
What are you showcasing at DCW?
We’re showcasing how Wood helps organisations unlock value across the entire asset lifecycle through a combination of strategic advisory services and proven digital solutions. Our focus is on helping clients design and deliver transformation strategies that directly support business-critical goals.
A key area we’ll be highlighting is our approach to integrated digital operations. This is all about putting the right foundations in place for successful digitalisation, covering people, processes, technology and, most importantly, data. We firmly believe that high-quality, well-structured data is the foundation for meaningful insights and better decision-making.
Visitors to our stand will be able to explore how we support clients through a range of capabilities, including:
- acting as a main digital contractor;
- providing specialist BIM consultancy;
- delivering digital twin implementations, including pre‑operations twins; and
- supporting digital transformation, with a strong focus on reality capture and scan‑to‑BIM workflows.
We bring decades of experience applying our technology-agnostic capabilities in heavy industries, where digital twins and main digital contractor models are already well established. We’re now seeing significant opportunities to transfer this proven expertise into the built environment and infrastructure sectors, helping organisations maximise the value of data from project delivery through to long-term operations.
Who are your customers, and what success have they had working with you?
Wood works with a diverse range of global clients and has been delivering main digital contractor and digital solutions on complex engineering projects for many years. While our roots are in energy and materials, we’re continuing to expand into new and emerging sectors, adapting and enhancing our offerings to meet evolving needs.
For example, we worked with a large multinational exploration company to implement digital twins across multiple operational assets. This delivered measurable benefits, including the elimination of many site surveys, fewer vendor visits, improved site familiarisation and onboarding, stronger training and competency programmes, and more mature predictive maintenance and work planning. By creating a single, trusted source of truth, the client unlocked operational savings of around $7.5m per year.
Closer to home, we’re also supporting a UK-distributed network operator through our BIM consultancy services. Working in partnership with an approved transmission and distribution vendor, we’ve helped ensure underground cable and overhead line projects are delivered in line with ISO 19650 requirements.
As a BSI‑certified lead appointed party, our teams align data and information management processes to industry best practice, from BIM execution plans through to 4D/5D sequencing and asset information management. This ensures clients receive not only well‑delivered physical assets, but also coordinated, high‑quality digital assets that provide long-term value.
