This is Digital Construction Plus
What is Digital Construction Plus? What will it offer? How can you engage with it? Justin Stanton gives you the lowdown.
Welcome to Digital Construction Plus: a new partnership between Digital Construction Week (DCW) and Atom. If not your new obsession, we hope you will come to regard it as your first port of call for news, analysis and views about digital construction.
Let’s be clear off the bat: not just ‘construction’. DC+ (that’s what we’re abbreviating ourselves to – you can too, friend) embraces the built environment and the managed environment. And by ‘digital’, we mean processes and technology.
We’ll be covering BIM, information management, the digitalisation of traditional construction concepts and methods, the golden thread, visualisation, data capture, collaboration, sustainability, automation, digital twins, robotics and the new frontier of smart assets, among many other topics.
There’ll be case studies, interviews, ‘how to’ guides and very occasionally, if we can pinpoint the right side of bed to get out of, some fun. We’ll reflect the current agenda and concerns, but we’ll also be searching for new voices to complement the established names from the community and looking to generate debate: sabres may be rattled, kites may be flown, just don’t shoot the messenger.
Have no doubt, we want digital adoption to continue apace, not for the hell of it, but because genuine improvements can be made to how we design, build, operate and maintain the built and managed environments – and in doing that, we increase the value we bring to society.
Engage with DC+
To keep up to date with DC+ stories, sign up for the midweek newsletter and follow us on LinkedIn.
We’d like to thank the organisers of DCW and Digital Construction North for their enthusiasm for this venture, and the kind words of support from nima and Women in BIM.
Talking of DCW, DC+ will be there for both days and I will be chairing a panel discussion on the Inspire stage on day one, focusing on the new generation of digital construction professionals. Stop by to hear what they have to say.
And if you don’t have time to say hello to DC+ at DCW, perhaps we’ll see you in July at the Digital Construction Awards in London, or the Women in BIM annual conference in Edinburgh.
In launching DC+ ahead of DCW, we’ve had to adopt a lean and agile approach. Thus, in startup vernacular, you could regard our first fortnight as a beta test, so bear with us while we debug, and please be kind to our mistakes.
