Sensat launches first ‘physical world search engine’
Software developer Sensat has created a tool that lets people search the real world – roads, land, bridges and other infrastructure.

The Orion tool lets users search the physical world in the same way they search the internet by typing a query into a search bar. At the same time, Sensat has launched AI Snapshot, which creates realistic images from mapping data.
Together, these tools bring mapping data to life, making it easier to analyse sites. They can assist with analysing geography and identifying infrastructure such as pylons and street furniture, as well as vegetation.
Orion can also help screen large areas to find and choose optimal development areas, as well as help spot risks or obstacles such as rivers, buildings, or protected areas.
In the future, Orion will be able to monitor changes to historical and geospatial data to see what has changed or needs attention. This could help with project oversight and improve data reliability.
Public consultation
AI Snapshot can also be used for stakeholder engagement and public consultation. It can create realistic and accurate visualisations of proposed developments.
Sensat co-founder and chief customer officer Harry Atkinson said: “With these new launches, we’re giving teams the ability to search the real world in the same intuitive way they search the internet to make faster, data-driven decisions.
“This improves efficiency and project outcomes by changing how we interact with spatial data, making it instantly searchable, understandable and actionable.”
